- 2 cups flour
- 2/3 cup wheat germ
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/3 cup butter, chilled
- 1 1/4 cups finely chopped apple
- 1/2 cup skim milk
- 1/3 cup honey
For the topping:
- 1 tablespoon wheat germ
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- Preheat oven to 400°. Lightly grease a large baking sheet.
- Combine the first seven ingredients; cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Combine the apple, milk and honey, and mix into the dry ingredients until they are just moistened.
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface - knead gently 5-6 times. Pat into 9-inch circle.
- Combine remaining ingredients - sprinkle over dough.
- Cut into 10 wedges; place 1/2 inch apart on prepared cookie sheet. Bake 16-18 minutes.
